ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Ariana Gabriella Arends Graduation marks an important academic achievement following her successful thesis defence at the University of Aruba’s Faculty of Law.
Arends graduated on July 23, 2026, after presenting and defending research examining the modernisation of partnership law in Aruba and the Netherlands.
Thesis Examines Partnership Law
Her thesis was titled:
“Rechtspersoonlijkheid voor personenvennootschappen? Modernisering van het personenvennootschapsrecht in Aruba en Nederland in rechtsvergelijkend perspectief.”
The title can be translated as:
“Legal Personality for Partnerships? Modernising Partnership Law in Aruba and the Netherlands From a Comparative Legal Perspective.”
Through the research, Arends explored questions involving the legal status of partnerships and compared developments in partnership law within Aruba and the Netherlands.
The topic is connected to broader discussions about whether partnerships should possess a separate legal identity and how modern legislation can define the rights and responsibilities of businesses, partners and third parties.

The thesis defence took place in an auditorium at the University of Aruba.
The examination committee consisted of:
