Carlos Martinus, Director of the Opleidingsinstituut voor Arbeidsmarkt en Beroepsonderwijs Aruba (O.A.B.A.), announced that the institute’s training programs continue to grow in both quality and popularity, particularly among employed individuals.
“All of our programs are offered at a high academic level,” Martinus stated. “Most students start at Level 1 (Assistant) and quickly progress to Level 2 to improve their position in the job market. Many are already working and are sent by their employers to continue studying, with some even moving on to Level 3.”
According to Martinus, the O.A.B.A. is investing more effort into public relations and outreach for the upcoming academic year to ensure that all potential students are informed about the opportunities available. “We tend to start classes a few weeks later than traditional schools to accommodate students who, for various reasons, missed standard enrollment dates,” he added.
The institute plans to launch new classes for Levels 1, 2, and possibly 3, particularly in electrical and full technical programs, with final documentation nearly complete. The target start date is September or, at the latest, October.
Martinus noted that the academic calendar at O.A.B.A. differs slightly from traditional day schools. They typically launch two or even three intakes per year, often welcoming students who didn’t gain admission to institutions like EPB or MAVO.
Additionally, O.A.B.A. is receiving a growing number of requests from companies looking to upskill their workforce. “Our certificates have become increasingly popular and are recognized by many businesses across Aruba,” he said.
