The STEM Embassy to Host Special Youth Event at University of Aruba

The STEM Embassy is organizing a three-day event titled “Ki’ta bo STEM?” from July 28 to 30, aimed at introducing youth to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

LeAnn Tromp of The STEM Embassy explained in an interview with Diario Matutino that the event will take place at the University of Aruba and is open to youth aged 12 to 21 years old. The name of the event, “Ki’ta bo STEM?”, is a play on words in Papiamento and highlights the focus on these rapidly growing career fields.

“These four areas are becoming increasingly popular,” Tromp stated. “We want to provide participants with hands-on workshops so they gain more confidence in possibly choosing these fields in the future. Even if they decide after two sessions that it’s not for them, at least they’ll walk away knowing what it’s all about.”

The STEM Embassy has previously organized several educational events, including earlier editions of “Ki’ta bo STEM?” in 2022 and 2023, a Hackathon in 2024, and a robotics competition. Tromp noted that both students and parents responded positively to these programs.

“Students learn a lot in school, but they don’t often get to work with their hands. That’s what we aim to provide through these workshops,” she added.

Tromp also emphasized that while many young people already know what they want to do, others are still figuring it out. “Especially those aged 12 to 14—some are just curious. Once they see what STEM is, they start exploring further and eventually choose school subjects that align with their interests.”

On the evening of July 30, several companies will participate with information booths to introduce students to STEM career opportunities in Aruba. Students who attended the workshops will also showcase their projects to the public and their families.
