PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters is proposing an Aruba child protection plan that would put prevention, early detection and support for victims alongside debate about criminal penalties, NoticiaCla reported on October 30.
Five priorities proposed for a national plan
According to the report, PPA wants an audit of existing recommendations, stronger follow-up for children at risk, better investigations, compulsory training for professionals and preventive education in schools, homes and the wider community. Pieters also wants annual reports so Parliament can monitor progress.
Investigations and support remain central
Pieters called for more specialist staff, stronger forensic work and cooperation between police, prosecutors and protection agencies. He argued that tougher sentences alone cannot secure convictions without adequate investigations and evidence. These are proposals attributed to PPA, not measures already enacted by the government.
