PPA Faction Opposes $20 Tourist Fee, Citing Hotel Responsibility and Area Concerns

The PPA parliamentary faction has voiced strong disagreement over the new $20 tourist fee, stating that the burden should fall on the hotels, not the visitors.

According to the faction’s leader, this additional cost creates unnecessary pressure on tourists and may impact the island’s reputation as a welcoming destination. “It should be the responsibility of the hotels to manage this, not the visitors,” the leader emphasized.

In addition to their concerns about the tourist tax, the PPA also expressed deep dissatisfaction with the ongoing odor nuisance near the RWZI (Wastewater Treatment Plant) in Eagle. The persistent stench is reportedly making life difficult for hotels, restaurants, and the many tourists frequenting the area.

The only person actively raising the issue, according to the PPA, is the director of Amsterdam Manor, who has shown genuine concern about the matter. “It is regrettable that no one else seems to be stepping up to address this serious problem,” said the party spokesperson.

The PPA faction is calling for immediate action and greater government accountability to protect Aruba’s tourism image and the well-being of businesses and visitors alike.
