A Knipscheer tribute at Biblioteca Nacional Aruba on Wednesday, October 21, will recognize the publisher’s contribution to Caribbean literature and the authors whose work it helped bring to readers, Diario reports. The free program runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at George Madurostraat 13, Oranjestad.
Recognition for Caribbean literary publishing
The evening is dedicated to the Dutch publishing house Uitgeverij In de Knipscheer and publisher Franc Knipscheer. According to Diario, its publishing work has created opportunities for writers from Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.
Aruba-born writer Ken Mangroelal is expected to attend from the Netherlands. The program will recognize his role in opening a path for Caribbean authors to publish through the company. Aruban author Munye Oduber-Winklaar will also receive recognition; Diario notes that her work Ta asina y awor mi ta regla cuenta cu bo was published in Dutch and Papiamento by In de Knipscheer and UNOCA.
Documentary, short talks and music
A documentary about Franc Knipscheer, produced by Hester Jonkhout, is scheduled to be shown. The report says it includes expressions of gratitude from Curaçaoan authors.
Wim Rutgers, Michiel van Kempen and Mirto Lacle are scheduled to give short talks. Grupo Musical y Coro La Escala, led by Chichi Perez, will provide music.
