Oduber Criticizes Wever’s Economic Policy Approach

ORANJESTAD (AAN): Parliamentarian Dangui Oduber has raised strong concerns over the economic policies of Minister Geoffrey Wever, claiming they favor large businesses over ordinary citizens.

According to Oduber, the Aruba Cost of Living Debate reflects a growing imbalance where commercial interests benefit from tax incentives while everyday citizens struggle with rising living costs.

He pointed to increasing prices of basic goods such as fuel, milk, and coffee, emphasizing that many families are facing financial pressure. Recent figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) show that the minimum cost of living continues to rise, placing the middle class at risk.

The Aruba Cost of Living Debate also highlights disparities in fiscal policy. While businesses investing in downtown Oranjestad may receive tax exemptions for several years, citizens do not receive similar financial relief and must meet all tax obligations.

Oduber further criticized government spending priorities, mentioning expenses such as travel and vehicle leases, while claiming that available funds could be used to ease financial burdens on households.

The Aruba Cost of Living Debate continues to gain attention, with calls for policies that prioritize the well-being of the general population over commercial interests.

Oduber concluded by urging the government to adopt a more balanced economic approach that supports the broader community.
