Aruba joined regional leaders in Willemstad as Curaçao marked its autonomy anniversary and 16 years as an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman attended a solemn meeting of the Parliament of Curaçao on Saturday, October 10. Curaçao Prime Minister Gilmar “Pik” Pisas, Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Suriname Vice President Gregory Rusland were also present for the commemoration.
Anniversary recalls the constitutional change of 10-10-10
The date marks the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles on October 10, 2010. Curaçao and Sint Maarten became autonomous countries within the Kingdom, while Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba became public bodies of the Netherlands. Aruba had already become an autonomous country in 1986.
Curaçao remains part of the Dutch Kingdom
The 2010 change gave Curaçao responsibility for its internal affairs as a constituent country; it did not make the island an independent state. The Kingdom now consists of the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
