MEP and FUTURO are seeking Aruba autonomy guarantees as Parliament considers a proposed Kingdom law intended to preserve existing regulations after changes to the Kingdom Charter.
MEP submits 20 questions
According to NoticiaCla, MEP parliamentarian Edgard Vrolijk presented 20 questions in a report approved on October 7. The questions focus on whether approval could limit Aruba’s autonomy or create a precedent for future consensus Kingdom laws, including measures connected to financial and governmental supervision.
MEP acknowledged the need to prevent a legal gap after December 31, 2026. The party nevertheless wants clarity about the proposed law’s constitutional, legal and financial consequences before taking a final position.
FUTURO asks about new obligations
FUTURO submitted two questions seeking assurances that the law would not create new obligations for Aruba. Its questions also address continuity for rules involving maritime safety, the Red Cross and financing for the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The parties do not reject regulatory continuity. They ask the Kingdom government to explain how continuity can be maintained without weakening Aruba autonomy or extending obligations beyond the law’s stated purpose.
