SVB Deposit Agreement Gives Aruba Afl. 50M Financing

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Aruba government signed an SVB deposit agreement worth Afl. 50 million on September 14, providing financing at 3 percent interest for 36 months, Finance Minister Geoffrey Wever announced.

Agreement refinances approved obligations

According to the minister’s statement reported by 24ora, the Social Insurance Bank deposit is intended to refinance public debt that is coming due. The government says it does not create additional spending room or add financing beyond the need already approved in Aruba’s 2026 budget.

SVB retains a claim and earns interest

Under the arrangement, SVB keeps a financial claim against the country, receives annual interest and is due full repayment of the principal when the term ends. The reported agreement also includes safeguards tied to SVB’s obligations. Wever said the financing uses a legal option available under Aruba’s temporary financial-supervision ordinance and follows advice attributed to CAft.
