ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Aruba Police Force has received 16 newly leased Toyota vehicles intended to improve transport capacity and support daily police operations.
According to 24Ora’s report on the vehicle handover, Justice Minister Arthur Dowers said parts of the existing fleet had been in service for years and could no longer provide the required level of support.
Aruba police vehicles address transport shortage
Dowers said detainee transport had become difficult because police sometimes had only one suitable vehicle available. The force has received support from Aruba’s Correctional Institution, known as CEA, but that transport is not always available.
The minister said the shortage could leave officers waiting and slow the process when someone needed to be transported after an arrest. Vehicles that are ready are expected to be put into service as quickly as possible.
Fleet includes operational and specialist models
Joylene de Nobrega, a sales and marketing executive, formally handed over the 16 vehicles. The reported mix includes five Land Cruisers, Hilux models, police transport vehicles, a van for the Police School, a high-panel van and a Fortuner assigned to the forensic department.
The vehicles required police-specific preparation before delivery, including the installation of lights, alarms and protective barriers.
Leased vehicles to enter service
The new vehicles were leased from Toyota under signed contracts. Dowers said mobility is important for the Aruba Police Force to operate effectively, particularly when officers must transport detainees without relying on another agency’s availability.
