An Aruba wage hearing with business organizations is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Parliament’s chamber, according to an invitation described by NoticiaCla.
Four business organizations invited
The Permanent Committee for Economic Affairs and the Primary Sector issued the invitation on October 19. The agenda provides for an exchange about the subsistence minimum with representatives of ATIA, the Chamber of Commerce (KvK), San Nicolas Business Association (SNBA) and Comerciantenan Uni Aruba (CUA).
The invitation does not announce a final decision on a wage increase or say the meeting was called to resolve differences within the governing coalition.
Different approaches to wage changes
In a separate October 21 report, 24ora quoted FUTURO parliamentarian Muzaninn Wever as seeking further investigation and consultation before implementation. He raised possible effects on business costs, prices and employment, while describing the disagreement as differing views rather than a coalition rupture.
In another October 21 report, AVP parliamentarian John Hart called for parliamentary discussion of a gradual route toward the subsistence minimum alongside support for businesses during the transition. Those are attributed political positions, not enacted wage changes or confirmed economic outcomes.
