ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Shannon Vullinghs Aruba has achieved international recognition after winning the top title of Miss Petite Tourism World 2026 during the Miss Tourism World competition held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Aruba also celebrated another strong result as educator Gen Ras earned first runner-up in the Mrs. Tourism World 2026 category.
The results were celebrated following the contestants’ return to Aruba, where representatives highlighted the pair’s successful performance and their efforts to promote the island throughout the international competition.
Aruba Representatives Achieve Major Results
Miss Tourism World is an international pageant that has strong connections to Aruba. The competition was organized on the island for several years before the 2026 edition moved to Punta Cana.
Two women represented Aruba this year.
Shannon competed in the Petite Tourism World division, while Gen Ras represented the island in the Mrs. Tourism World category.
The competition ended with Shannon Vullinghs Aruba securing the Miss Petite Tourism World 2026 crown and Ras finishing as first runner-up in her division.
Both representatives also received recognition in the Tourism Forum portion of their respective competitions.
Shannon additionally received the title of Tourism Ambassador during the event in Punta Cana.
Contestants Promoted Aruba Internationally
George Winterdaal of GLW Foundation praised both representatives for the way they represented Aruba during the competition.
According to Winterdaal, Shannon and Gen arrived well prepared with information about Aruba’s tourism industry, culture and identity.
Throughout competition week, they had opportunities to speak about the island with fellow contestants, organizers and members of the public.
Winterdaal said their enthusiasm and affection for Aruba were evident whenever they discussed their home island.
The contestants also attracted attention from visitors who wanted photographs with them and showed interest in their costumes and representation.
These interactions provided additional opportunities for Shannon and Gen to explain where Aruba is located and introduce international audiences to the island.
Tourism Pageant Expands Beyond Aruba
Winterdaal organized the international tourism pageant in Aruba for approximately 10 years before taking the event to Punta Cana for its 2026 edition.
Punta Cana is itself an internationally recognized Caribbean tourism destination, giving the competition another prominent setting.
Winterdaal said the move has generated interest from international franchises interested in potentially hosting future editions of the competition.
He believes this could help the Tourism World platform continue expanding internationally.
Strong Performance Celebrated Back Home
Winterdaal also recognized the work required from contestants throughout the week-long competition.
He particularly praised Shannon for maintaining her positive attitude and smile despite the demanding schedule.
The success of Shannon Vullinghs Aruba and Gen Ras gives Aruba two notable international achievements from the 2026 event.
Their participation also served a broader tourism role by giving both representatives opportunities to speak about Aruba, its people, its culture and its tourism appeal to an international audience.
With Shannon returning home as Miss Petite Tourism World 2026 and Tourism Ambassador, and Gen Ras returning as first runner-up in Mrs. Tourism World 2026, Aruba concludes this year’s competition with strong representation and international recognition.
