The San Nicolas mural restoration is bringing new life to a landmark artwork created by Aruban artist Elvis Tromp at the entrance of Sunrise City.
Tromp originally painted the mural in 2014 after being commissioned by the Aruba Tourism Authority to create a work that reflected Aruban hospitality, friendliness and culture.
The mural combines several recognizable elements of Aruba, including landscapes, cacti, hills, visitors and scenes of hospitality.
At the time it was created, San Nicolas had relatively few murals, and the artwork quickly became a point of interest for both residents and tourists.
Visitors often stopped to admire the mural and take photographs.
Now, 12 years later, Tromp is returning to the same artwork to restore its colors and refresh its appearance.
The restoration is being supported by ATA and is also connected to the broader vision for revitalizing Bernhardstraat and San Nicolas.
For Tromp, returning to the mural has special meaning.
He said he is once again seeing people stop, admire and photograph the work, similar to when it was first completed.
The San Nicolas mural restoration therefore represents more than a simple repainting project. It reconnects the community with a piece of local cultural identity while supporting broader efforts to strengthen San Nicolas as an artistic and tourism destination.
