ORANJESTAD (AAN): Another serious hit-and-run incident has left a pedestrian critically injured in San Nicolas. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

On Thursday night at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Police Central Dispatch received multiple calls reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road in front of the Police Station in San Nicolas. The incident occurred on Bernhardstraat, between KFC and Burger King.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found an unresponsive male lying on the roadway. The vehicle involved had already fled the scene, making this another hit-and-run case.

Emergency medical services from ImSan Ambulance were requested with maximum urgency, while police units closed off approximately 75 meters of the road to secure the area. Upon arrival, paramedics determined that the victim was in very serious condition. He was stabilized on-site and then transported urgently to the Emergency Department at the hospital.

Due to the severity of the victim’s condition, the Aruba Police Force provided full cooperation during transport, closing multiple intersections along the route from San Nicolas to the hospital to ensure rapid medical access.

Traffic specialists and the forensic investigation team from BFTO were dispatched to investigate the incident. Victim Support Services (Bureau Slachtofferhulp) were also notified to provide assistance.

Later that night, police spokesperson Liliana Rasmijn stated that the victim’s condition remained critical and asked the community to keep the victim in their prayers.

Police also made a public appeal to the driver who fled the scene to turn himself in and take responsibility for his actions, reminding the public that leaving an injured person behind is unacceptable.

On Friday morning, a male individual presented himself at the San Nicolas Police Station and identified himself to the duty commander as the driver involved in the hit-and-run. He was subsequently transferred to the Traffic Department for further investigation.

As of Friday morning, police confirmed that the victim’s condition remains critical. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the police and provide information via the anonymous Police Tip Line at 111-41.
