The children hydration Aruba campaign by IBiSA encourages parents and caregivers to help children stay properly hydrated during the island’s hot season.
As temperatures rise, children spend more time playing outdoors and taking part in physical activities. However, they often forget to drink water until they are already becoming dehydrated.
To help families enjoy a safe and healthy vacation season, IBiSA shared five practical hydration tips.
1. Make water more appealing
If children find plain water boring, add fresh fruit such as watermelon, pineapple, kiwi, lime or strawberries. Fruit-infused water adds natural flavour and encourages children to drink more.
2. Schedule hydration breaks
Do not wait until children ask for water. Plan regular water breaks every 30 minutes or after each game or activity, similar to scheduled breaks during sporting events.
3. Choose water-rich fruits
Healthy snacks can also improve hydration. Watermelon, grapes, melon, cucumber and fresh fruit salads are excellent choices during the hottest hours of the day.
4. Prepare homemade frozen treats
Instead of ice cream with added sugar, make homemade frozen fruit pops using natural fruit juice. They are refreshing, nutritious and help increase fluid intake.
5. Dress for the weather
Avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Dress children in lightweight clothing and ensure they wear hats and sunscreen when outdoors.
IBiSA said keeping children hydrated does not have to be difficult. With simple routines and a little creativity, families can enjoy a healthy, active and enjoyable summer while reducing the risk of dehydration.
Following these children hydration Aruba tips can help children stay safe, active and comfortable throughout the hottest months of the year.
