ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba’s Minister of Sports, Gerlien Croes, says an estimated AWG 3.6 million is still required to complete the renovation of the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Sports Complex.
Croes explained that following the appointment of a new Lotto board, a full assessment of the facility was carried out to determine the remaining work. The review found that significant repairs are still needed before the project can be completed.
Among the major concerns are the northern grandstand, which has been declared unsafe, a damaged athletics tower, deteriorated restroom facilities, lifted floor tiles, and structural questions involving several support columns. Parts of the gymnasium also remain unfinished.
The minister said the government has already identified the AWG 3.6 million funding requirement but must wait for the national budget process and further discussions with the Lotto board to determine how the remaining work will be financed and prioritized.
According to Croes, the Lotto board recently inspected the stadium to evaluate the facility firsthand and discuss which repairs should receive immediate attention as efforts continue to complete the long-delayed renovation project.
