The Caribbean Arthritis Foundation recently organized an educational session for arthritis patients at the Theresita Center in San Nicolas. The event, held in a fully occupied hall, aimed to provide valuable information to attendees regarding the management of their condition.
The evening began with a general presentation by board member Ebby Schwengle. Dr. Patrick Haime followed with a discussion titled “The Mechanics of Mobility,” addressing issues relevant to osteoarthritis patients. Physiotherapist Jerome van der Spil then engaged the audience in a presentation on the importance of exercise, encouraging active participation. The session concluded with Dr. Ike Posner discussing pain mechanisms associated with arthritis.
Dr. Posner was also introduced as the newly appointed secretary of the foundation’s board, replacing Ebby Schwengle, who served in the role for 11 years. The foundation emphasized its commitment to early diagnosis and patient education to improve the quality of life for those affected in Aruba. The organization’s mission aligns with United Nations goals regarding health, well-being, and reducing inequality.
Speakers addressed questions from the audience throughout the presentations. The Caribbean Arthritis Foundation extended special thanks to its patron, Nationale Vereniging Reumazorg Nederland, and to all the speakers for their contributions to the event.
