During his official visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Mike Eman met with Dutch author and former political journalist Hans Verbeek, author of De Vergeten Minister-President. The discussion focused on political history, leadership, and the importance of preserving historical legacies that shaped the Netherlands and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Verbeek’s book chronicles the life and political career of Gerrit Schimmelpenninck (1794–1863), the first Prime Minister of the Netherlands, offering insights into the constitutional debates of 1848 and Schimmelpenninck’s role during critical moments in Dutch political history.
Verbeek, who has experience as a political journalist in The Hague and as a foreign correspondent, currently works in the province of Overijssel. His research draws on historical and diplomatic sources previously unused, providing a fresh perspective on historical political visions.
As a gesture of appreciation, Prime Minister Eman presented Verbeek with a copy of Volk van Veerkracht by Luc Alofs and Rene Zwart, which highlights the resilience and perseverance of the Aruban people and the development of Aruba’s identity over generations.
