ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), in collaboration with the Government of Aruba, Royal Schiphol Group, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement is focused on strengthening aviation connectivity, infrastructure, and digital travel facilities between Aruba and European markets.

The MOU was signed by AAA CEO Jonny Andersen, Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor Wendrick Cicilia, and representatives from the Dutch partners. This partnership forms part of a broader vision to establish Aruba as a leading hub for innovation in the Caribbean while supporting the airport’s long-term Gateway 2030 transformation strategy.

A central element of the agreement involves exploring future digital border facilitation and pre-clearance opportunities. Officials aim to streamline travel between Aruba and Europe, building upon the successful model of the existing U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility at the airport. This system allows travelers to complete immigration and customs procedures prior to departure, creating a more efficient arrival experience.

The signing took place during the official visit of Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten to Aruba Airport, where the delegation toured the U.S. CBP operations and new baggage facilities. Jonny Andersen, CEO of AAA, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, noting that working with partners will strengthen Aruba’s position as a leading portal in the Caribbean.

AUA Airport currently serves over 3.2 million passengers annually with non-stop flights to 45 destinations. The new initiative aligns with ongoing discussions regarding Aruba potentially serving as an Atlantic Digital Gateway and an EU-Schengen pre-clearance hub.
