ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba has introduced a new initiative called WAW Mobiel for senior citizens, a pilot project aimed at bringing activities directly to older adults across all neighborhoods on the island.

According to William Erasmus of IBiSA, the WAW Mobiel for senior citizens program will officially begin on Monday, May 4, 2026, and will run for two months. After this period, an evaluation will be conducted to determine its future.

The idea for WAW Mobiel for senior citizens originated from Minister Gerlien Croes, who collaborated with CEDE Aruba, Fundacion Movimento pa Bida, Fundacion Lotto pa Deporte, and IBiSA to develop the project.

CEDE Aruba is providing the mobile units, IBiSA is supplying trained coaches, and Fundacion Movimento pa Bida is connecting with senior organizations across the island. Fundacion Lotto pa Deporte is supporting the initiative financially.

Minister Croes explained that the concept was inspired by the success of WAW Mobiel programs previously used for youth activities. The initiative has now been expanded to include older adults, ensuring they also benefit from accessible recreational and wellness activities.

WAW stands for “Wega Ariba Wiel” (Play on Wheels), a community program designed to bring sports and activities closer to residents. The WAW Mobiel for senior citizens will follow a schedule visiting different districts, starting in Noord.

Organizations interested in participating can contact IBiSA to reserve a visit. More information is available on the platform www.actividad.aw, which serves as a central hub for activities across Aruba, including sports, wellness, and cultural programs for all age groups.
