Animal Cruelty Aruba : Resident Lucia Hernandez discovered five deceased dogs in the Tanki Leendert district on Friday morning, prompting an outcry for stricter animal welfare enforcement. Hernandez, who volunteers with a local group assisting street animals, was alerted to the scene near Supermercado Kadushi. Upon arrival, she found one deceased animal and subsequently located four others across the street. The discovery has deeply affected the community, as the shelters are currently at capacity.
Hernandez and her team noted that this is not an isolated incident. They have previously encountered animals displaying severe injuries, including cuts from machetes, burns, and acid exposure. A local veterinarian examined the recent victims and suggested that poisoning was the likely cause of death in this specific case. The volunteers managed to save a small dog with severe lacerations recently, thanks to veterinary care and community donations, but the loss of these five animals highlights a growing crisis.
The group is calling on government officials to implement and enforce stricter laws against animal cruelty. They argue that current campaigns are insufficient without legal consequences for those who mistreat or abandon animals. Hernandez emphasized that sterilization is a necessary step to control the stray population, rather than resorting to killing or poisoning. The community hopes that authorities will take immediate action to prevent further atrocities against animals on the island.
