The Aruba Firearms Amnesty Extended program has officially been prolonged, giving residents more time to surrender illegal weapons safely and anonymously.
The Aruba Police Force (KPA), in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM), announced that the amnesty initiative “Turn It In Or We’ll Come Get It” will now continue until May 24, 2026. Originally scheduled from March 24 to April 24, the extension aims to encourage more individuals to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Aruba Firearms Amnesty Extended initiative is part of a broader regional effort involving law enforcement agencies from Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. The main objective is to reduce the number of illegal firearms in circulation and improve overall public safety across the islands.
Under the terms of the Aruba Firearms Amnesty Extended program, individuals can voluntarily turn in illegal firearms without facing criminal prosecution. The process is designed to ensure complete anonymity, making it easier for people to come forward without fear of legal consequences.
Authorities have set up two official drop-off locations to facilitate the process. In Oranjestad, a blue container is available at Wilhelminastraat (former police station), while in San Nicolas, another container is located next to the local police station. These points are accessible and clearly marked to guide participants.
The Aruba Firearms Amnesty Extended program also accepts not only firearms but ammunition and weapon parts, broadening the scope of the initiative to remove as many dangerous items as possible from the community.
So far, the program has seen some participation, with two individuals voluntarily surrendering firearms. However, authorities also reported that five suspects were found in possession of illegal weapons who did not take advantage of the amnesty period.
Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to make use of the extended deadline. They emphasize that removing illegal firearms from the streets plays a crucial role in preventing crime and protecting lives.
The Aruba Firearms Amnesty Extended campaign highlights the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety. By working together, authorities and residents can help create a more secure environment for everyone on the island.
As the deadline approaches, officials hope to see increased participation and further progress in reducing illegal firearm possession in Aruba.
