The 3DXVerse project Aruba aviation innovation is driving digital transformation and sustainability in the island’s aviation sector.
The project, presented by Gino Schwengle, is part of a European Union Horizon initiative developed in collaboration with an international consortium of European universities and companies. It focuses on modernizing the travel experience through advanced digital solutions.
In partnership with the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), Immigration Department, Aruba Airport Authority (AAA), and the Department of Civil Aviation, the project introduces digital travel credentials. This allows passengers to create a digital passport on their mobile devices and share it with immigration authorities before arriving in Aruba.
With this system, travelers can pass through border control more quickly, as there is no need to present a physical passport. Using facial recognition technology, passenger identities can be verified within seconds at automated e-gates, significantly reducing waiting times.
Beyond improving travel efficiency, the 3DXVerse project Aruba aviation innovation also promotes sustainability. The system provides travelers with information about their carbon footprint related to their trip to Aruba.
Additionally, visitors can actively participate in environmental efforts by contributing to local initiatives such as mangrove planting. These activities help generate carbon credits during their stay, supporting environmental conservation.
According to Schwengle, the project also enables local companies to access international expertise and collaboration, reducing development costs and encouraging innovation on a global scale.
The 3DXVerse project highlights how collaboration with the European Union can support not only financial investment but also technological advancement, knowledge transfer, and sustainable development in Aruba.
