The Directie Natuur en Milieu (DNM) has announced that this year, they will participate in the world’s largest environmental initiative: WWF-Earth Hour. As part of Earth Hour Aruba 2026, DNM will turn off the lights of the monumental Uncle Louis Store building in San Nicolas, where DNM is located.
Event Details:
Earth Hour is an annual initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that began in 2007. The goal of this international campaign is to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of protecting our environment. In Earth Hour Aruba 2026, the emphasis will be on reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainable actions.
- Date: Saturday, March 28, 2026
- Time: From 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM
- Action: Turning off all lights in the building for one hour.
A Call to the Community:
DNM, together with the WWF-Netherlands team, encourages all government entities, businesses, and especially the community in Aruba to join in this powerful awareness-raising action for Earth Hour Aruba 2026. For one hour, we are asking everyone to “switch off” non-essential lights to highlight the solutions needed for our climate.
This year, WWF’s goal is to increase the number of buildings and landmarks in the Kingdom that participate, delivering a stronger message for Earth Hour Aruba 2026.
How Can You Participate?
- At home: Turn off your lights inside and outside between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.
- Digitally: Share your participation on social media using the hashtag #earthhour.
- Material: For those who want to promote this within their own organization, digital toolkits (including flyers and images) are available on the website wwfdutchcaribbean.org/earthhour.
Turn off the lights for nature and show that Aruba is also aware of the value of protecting our environment through Earth Hour Aruba 2026.
