ORANJESTAD, Aruba – The King Willem Alexander Aruba visit scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, will highlight two major milestones in Aruba’s national history: the 40th anniversary of Status Aparte and the 50th anniversary of Aruba’s national anthem and flag.
The visit reflects the longstanding relationship between Aruba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands and provides an opportunity to reflect on Aruba’s development since gaining autonomous status in 1986.
Honoring Aruba’s National Identity
The celebrations will focus on Aruba’s national identity and unity, symbolized by the island’s flag and the national anthem “Aruba Dushi Tera.” These symbols have represented Aruba’s cultural pride and independence since 1976.
During the visit, King Willem-Alexander will participate in several official events recognizing these historic milestones and highlighting Aruba’s progress and future ambitions.
Meeting With Government Leaders
The King’s program in Aruba will begin in the morning with a meeting at Fort Zoutman in Oranjestad, the oldest stone building on the island and an important historical landmark.
At Fort Zoutman, King Willem-Alexander will meet with parliamentary faction leaders and members of Aruba’s Council of Ministers. Discussions will include reflections on Aruba’s political development, including the 70th anniversary of the Kingdom Charter and the 40th anniversary of Status Aparte.
Central Commemoration Ceremony
Following the meeting, the King will attend the official ceremony marking the anniversaries of Aruba’s anthem and flag as well as Status Aparte.

During the King Willem Alexander Aruba visit, the monarch will also visit the Roly Bisslik Olympic Swimming Complex, where he will meet local athletes and representatives from Aruba’s swimming community.
At the facility, he will participate in a symbolic ceremony marking the start of construction for a new warm-up pool supported by the International Swimming Federation (FINA). Young athletes will demonstrate several swimming disciplines during the visit.
The King will later travel to Marinierskazerne Savaneta, where he will board a Dutch naval vessel for a briefing on regional geopolitical developments and security cooperation in the Caribbean.
Discussions on Tourism and Immigration
Another key part of the King Willem Alexander Aruba visit includes discussions with representatives from government, academia, businesses, and social organizations.

The visit will conclude with a stop at the Dakota Community and Sports Center, where the King will meet members of Stichting Movemiento ta Bida, the recipient of the 2024 Appeltje van Oranje award for promoting active lifestyles among senior citizens.
After completing his program in Aruba, the King will continue his visit in Curaçao, where he will discuss regional geopolitical tensions involving Venezuela and the United States with community leaders.
