Woman arrested  drunk driving after causing crash in Oranjestad following a traffic accident Monday night on Driemasterstraat near the intersection with Venezuelastraat.

According to police reports, the incident was initially reported as a minor rear-end collision where one vehicle struck another from behind. The Police Central Dispatch sent a traffic officer to investigate the situation.

The accident involved a blue Toyota Corolla (license plate A-81950) and a blue Chevrolet Spark (license plate A-29462). Authorities determined that the driver of the Toyota Corolla failed to regulate her speed in time and collided with the vehicle in front of her.

Signs of Alcohol Influence Detected

Because there were no injuries reported, the case was initially handled by Forensic traffic specialists, who responded to document the scene and examine the circumstances of the crash.

However, during their interaction with the female driver of the Corolla, investigators noticed clear signs suggesting she might be under the influence of alcohol.

Following standard protocol, the situation was immediately escalated and traffic police officers were called to the scene to continue the investigation.

Breath Test Confirms Intoxication

Upon arrival, the traffic officer also observed indications that the driver appeared to be under the influence. The driver was asked to cooperate with a breathalyzer test using an AlcoSensor device, to which she agreed.

The test result showed a µg/l alcohol level significantly higher than the legal limit in Aruba.

Based on the result, police immediately placed the woman under arrest and informed her that she was being detained for driving under the influence.

She was transported to the police station using a police transport vehicle and later presented before an assistant prosecutor (Fiscal Auxiliar) for further legal processing.

Financial Consequences Likely

Authorities also warned that in cases involving drunk driving, insurance companies often refuse to cover damages caused during the accident.

This means that the driver may be personally responsible for the costs of repairing the damaged vehicle, in addition to any legal consequences resulting from the arrest.

Police continue to remind motorists that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense and significantly increases the risk of accidents on Aruba’s roads.
