The PLACE Aruba Project was presented to Minister of Infrastructure Drs. Rene Herdé during a special session held at SETAR.
The presentation introduced an innovative initiative led by the international non-profit organization PLACE, which specializes in acquiring high-resolution aerial imagery of land areas. The project aims to provide Aruba with extremely detailed maps and geographic data to enhance strategic planning and infrastructure development.
According to Minister Herdé, the level of precision offered by the PLACE Aruba Project is exceptionally high. The detailed aerial images and mapping data can be used for physical planning, infrastructure design, environmental management, security operations, and urban development.
“The level of detail is so advanced that the information can be used for planning roads, buildings, pipelines, and various infrastructure projects,” Minister Herdé explained.
The initiative involves capturing highly detailed aerial photographs of Aruba. These images will create valuable geographic information accessible to government departments, utility companies, and even the private sector. The data will allow for more accurate planning and better-informed decision-making.
Minister Herdé emphasized that the value of this type of geographic information is enormous. By having access to precise mapping data, Aruba can improve investment efficiency, optimize infrastructure development, and implement more sustainable long-term planning strategies.
The PLACE Aruba Project will involve close collaboration with several local departments over approximately one month. The objective is to position Aruba as a regional example in the use of advanced geographic technology for modern development.
The Minister described the project as an important step toward modernizing Aruba’s infrastructure planning system and building a solid foundation for future growth. With better spatial data, Aruba can address infrastructure challenges more effectively and prepare for long-term expansion in a sustainable manner.
Minister Herdé expressed gratitude to PLACE, DIP, and DLV for organizing the project, DOW for its participation, and SETAR for financing and facilitating the initiative.
The introduction of the PLACE Aruba Project marks a significant move toward technological advancement in infrastructure planning and reinforces Aruba’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
