The BASA department of the Aruba Fire Department hosted a special Family Day last Sunday, bringing together firefighters, administrative staff, and colleagues from other departments to celebrate the end of 2025 and show appreciation for their dedicated service.
The event took place at Balashi Beer Garden in a relaxed and festive setting. Employees attended with their families, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Children enjoyed entertainment including two bouncy houses, while food, snacks, and refreshments were available throughout the venue. Snack boxes were also distributed, ensuring everyone could enjoy the afternoon.
Former firefighters were invited as well, using the occasion to reconnect, share memories, and reflect on their years of service within the department.
Before the event concluded, special recognition was given to Commander Hans de Haas, who will officially step down on December 31 as he returns to the Netherlands. De Haas was presented with a commemorative gift as a token of appreciation and thanked staff for the more than two and a half years of cooperation, dedication, and support during his tenure as commander.
Looking ahead, the Aruba Fire Department announced that Jair Tromp will assume the role of Fire Department Commander starting January 1, 2026. Tromp returns to Aruba after several years of international service as Fire Chief in Bonaire, Curaçao, and other locations, and is expected to lead the department into the new year with experience and renewed vision.
The Family Day served not only as a moment of celebration but also as a meaningful transition point, honoring leadership, teamwork, and the strong sense of community within the Aruba Fire Department.
