ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A man identified as L.T. and a woman identified as J.K. have been convicted of drug possession and drug trafficking following a police raid in Sabana Grandi, despite both defendants denying involvement in drug sales.

Charges and Allegations

The Public Prosecutor charged J.K. with possessing and selling cocaine between January 2020 and August 2026, while L.T. was accused of possessing and selling drugs between January 2020 and August 2025. L.T. was also charged with importing marijuana and MDMA (ecstasy) from the Netherlands on July 29, 2025.

Drug Import and Police Investigation

The court heard that in July 2025, a drug-sniffing dog alerted authorities to a package sent from the Netherlands addressed to L.T. Customs officials inspected the package and found 454 grams of marijuana and 550 MDMA pills. L.T. claimed the drugs were for personal use.

On August 1, 2025, police conducted a raid at a residence in Sabana Grandi, where they arrested both suspects. Officers found scales, cocaine, and a bag containing MDMA, totaling 54.24 grams. Additional cocaine was found in J.K.’s bag.

Witness Statements and Evidence

According to police reports, multiple witnesses stated that they had purchased drugs from L.T. and, at times, from J.K. These witnesses described contacting the suspects via phone calls and WhatsApp messages, with drugs delivered in person or left at agreed locations.

Although both defendants denied selling drugs, the judge noted that the number of consistent witness statements made their denial implausible. Police also confiscated cash, mobile phones, and other items during the investigation.

Court Ruling and Sentencing

The judge concluded that both defendants were guilty of drug possession and trafficking. The court partially upheld the prosecution’s sentencing request.

  • L.T. was sentenced to 4 years in prison
  • J.K. was sentenced to 18 months in prison, of which 6 months are suspended, with a 2-year probation period

The court ordered 2,242 florins to be confiscated, while 100 euros and 600 US dollars were to be returned. The confiscated mobile phones will also be returned.
