Prime Minister Mike Eman has confirmed that the Government of Aruba has developed multiple contingency plans to address different possible scenarios arising from tensions between Venezuela and the United States.
Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Eman responded to questions about how Aruba is prepared should developments between the two countries impact the island, given Aruba’s close geographic proximity to Venezuela.
According to the Prime Minister, the government has prepared Plans A through E, each designed for different potential scenarios. These plans were developed in collaboration with the Crisis Management Organization Aruba (CMO), Aruba’s security services, and the Department of External Relations. He emphasized that preparedness is essential and that various situations have already been assessed.
Prime Minister Eman also revealed that several weeks ago, the Aruban government formally requested additional support from the Netherlands to strengthen these preparations. This request was directed to the Director of External Relations of the Netherlands and discussed further with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of General Affairs, Robert Candelaria.
He explained that discussions were held with representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to receive feedback on Aruba’s request. The response, according to Eman, was positive. During the meeting, both sides conducted an inventory of areas where Aruba seeks further reinforcement and support.
The Prime Minister noted that the request was later confirmed in writing and that advisory channels are now open. He stressed that from the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ side, all necessary preparations are proceeding as required, ensuring that Aruba is adequately supported and prepared for any potential developments.
