The new Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for employees of Tierra del Sol has been finalized, and a date will soon be set for its official signing. This was confirmed by Diego de Cuba, President of the Sindicato Trahadornan Arubiano (STA), in an interview with DIARIO.
According to De Cuba, negotiations on the new collective agreement have been successfully concluded, with consensus reached on nearly all points. “We have practically reached full agreement. At this stage, we are only waiting for the final draft so we can schedule a signing date,” he stated.
Salary Increase and Improved Benefits
De Cuba noted that the new CAO includes a salary increase of approximately 15% spread over three years, which STA considers a solid and fair outcome. In addition to wage increases, employees will also benefit from:
- Higher bonuses
- More vacation days
- A 40-hour workweek
One of the key achievements of the agreement is the introduction of two consecutive days off per week, instead of a single day. STA had strongly advocated for this change, emphasizing its importance for workers’ family life and social wellbeing.
“Having only one day off per week doesn’t help much,” De Cuba explained. “Most of these workers have families, and their social lives were very limited. We wanted real change, and thankfully management understood that.”
Union Satisfaction
While acknowledging that negotiations were intense and not everyone agreed with STA’s approach, De Cuba expressed satisfaction with the outcome and appreciation for the understanding shown by management.
“We fought hard for these improvements with solid arguments, and we are happy that the majority of workers—especially STA members—are pleased with the result,” he concluded.
