Aruba’s Minister of Tourism Wendrick Cicilia has confirmed that his ministry, together with key tourism partners, continues to closely monitor the economic and political situation in the United States, particularly under the Trump administration, due to potential impacts on American visitor spending patterns.

Since March, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), Aruba Airport Authority (AAA), and Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA), has been analyzing possible effects of new U.S. import tariffs and other policy changes. A strategic document titled “How to Navigate the Effects of Trump” has been developed to guide Aruba’s response through diversification and market consolidation efforts.

Recently, Minister Cicilia held meetings with Ronella Croes (ATA), Tisa LaSorte (AHATA), Jo-Anne Arends (AAA), and Zulema Erasmus-Dabian, Aruba’s Plenipotentiary Minister in Washington, D.C. These discussions aim to maintain an ongoing dialogue and intelligence exchange to effectively monitor the evolving situation in the U.S.

The Minister also referred to the U.S. government shutdown, which began on October 1 due to a budget dispute between Republicans and Democrats, resulting in a temporary suspension of federal services. The shutdown has led the FAA and Department of Transportation to reduce domestic flights by 10% to maintain safety and relieve air traffic pressure.

At this time, no significant effects have been observed on Aruba’s tourism industry, but the ministry remains vigilant and in constant communication with its international and local partners.

“We are closely following developments in the U.S. to ensure Aruba’s tourism stability and continued success,” Minister Cicilia stated.
