ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Yhoelly Willems, daughter of the two victims who died in a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this year, has responded publicly to recent statements made by relatives of the main suspect.
Her comments came after the suspect’s family discussed his detention and legal representation. Willems questioned those claims, noting that attorneys had previously appeared on behalf of the suspect during court proceedings and media interviews.
She also rejected suggestions that the case had not been properly investigated, stating that authorities had carried out investigations and that her family had respected the legal process from the beginning.
Speaking emotionally, Willems said the trauma experienced by her family should not be overlooked, describing the lasting pain of losing both parents in the crash and the reality that her mother will never meet her grandchild.
She added that while the suspect’s family is still able to visit him in prison, her family continues to live with an irreplaceable loss. Willems thanked her relatives, friends, and colleagues for supporting her through the difficult months since the tragedy.
The criminal case remains before the courts as legal proceedings continue.
