The Kingdom Council of Ministers and the Council of Ministers reached an agreement last Friday to appoint Hans Hoogervorst as the new president of the three Financial Supervision Boards. He succeeds Lidewijde Ongering, who will step down from the position on February 1st.

With this appointment, effective February 1st, Hoogervorst will become the new president of the Cft Curaçao and Sint Maarten, the Financial Supervision Board of Aruba, and the Cft Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. Since 2022, Hoogervorst has served as a member of all three boards representing the Netherlands. He previously held several positions in the Dutch government, including Secretary of State and Minister, and later served as Chairman of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets and the International Accounting Standards Board.

Eddie van Marum, State Secretary for Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations, commented on the appointment:

“Mr. Hoogervorst already has a strong track record as a member of the Financial Supervision Boards. He is an excellent successor to Ms. Ongering, who has carried out her duties with great professionalism since February 2023. Sound public finances are the foundation for making investments that improve the lives of people across all the islands.”

In his remarks, Hans Hoogervorst expressed his gratitude for Ms. Ongering’s leadership and stated that he intends to continue her approach, emphasizing dialogue and structural improvement among the Caribbean countries of the Kingdom.

The Financial Supervision Boards are independent bodies that monitor the financial stability and fiscal responsibility of Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Aruba, and the public entities of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. They play an advisory and supervisory role in ensuring sustainable public finance management.
