Zeerovers Draws Fresh Praise for Dockside Seafood

SAVANETA, Aruba — Zeerovers has received fresh international attention as a Caribbean Journal feature praised the waterfront restaurant’s simple formula: the day’s catch, ordered by weight and served beside the fishing boats that bring it ashore.

The September 13 travel feature describes the well-known Savaneta spot as one of the publication’s favorite ways to experience Aruba beyond the high-rise resort area. Visitors often wait in line before choosing fish, shrimp and side dishes at the counter.

The day’s catch determines the menu

Zeerovers does not rely on an extensive fixed menu. The selection changes with what local boats bring in, and customers order seafood by weight before it is fried and served in baskets.

Common accompaniments include plantains, fries and pan bati. Diners then carry their meal to tables extending along the pier, where the restaurant’s informal service and direct connection to the sea shape the experience.

Caribbean Journal noted that the restaurant has become famous enough to attract substantial crowds, including both local residents and visitors. The publication advises travelers not to be discouraged by the line, describing the wait as part of the experience.

Savaneta offers a different side of Aruba

The setting also helps distinguish Zeerovers from restaurants in Aruba’s main resort corridor. Savaneta, the island’s former capital, has a lower-key waterfront with fishing boats, residential streets and smaller businesses.

That atmosphere gives visitors an opportunity to see a part of Aruba closely connected to the island’s fishing heritage. The restaurant’s popularity has grown, but the feature argues that its essential character remains unchanged: fresh seafood, uncomplicated preparation and dockside dining.

A long-standing Aruba recommendation

Caribbean Journal has included Zeerovers in previous restaurant and Aruba travel guides. Its latest review again presents the restaurant as an essential stop for travelers who want a meal rooted in local surroundings rather than a formal resort dining experience.

The renewed coverage adds to Zeerovers’ international profile while highlighting Savaneta as a destination in its own right. For Aruba’s tourism economy, that attention also directs visitors toward communities and businesses outside the island’s busiest hotel zone.
