ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Members of Aruba’s Bonairean community gathered Sunday at Club Boneriano to celebrate Bonaire Day and reflect on the cultural ties between the two islands.
Community honors a shared Caribbean history
According to 24ora, the Bonaire Day in Aruba celebration was attended by Bonaire deputy Timoteo Silberie and Aruba minister Wendrick Cicilia. Silberie said the occasion offered a time to honor the past, consider the present and look toward the community’s future.
He thanked generations of Bonaireans in Aruba for contributing their culture, language and traditions to the island. He also pointed to cooperation and close relations between Aruba and Bonaire as important to both communities.
Contributions span key sectors in Aruba
Cicilia, who said his father was Bonairean, highlighted the role Bonaireans play in Aruba’s daily life. He cited their work in tourism, healthcare, public service, commerce and business.
The gathering at Club Boneriano focused on community ties and the longstanding relationship between the neighboring islands.
