ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Wikipedia on Aruba project is launching a new monthly event called “Ban Wiki!”, where participants can ask questions about the project, meet fellow volunteers, and begin editing Wikipedia.
The first Ban Wiki! event of 2026 will take place on January 16, held online via Google Meet, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (AST). During the session, the Wikipedia on Aruba team will provide step-by-step guidance on how to use Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms.
The event is especially aimed at individuals and teams working within GLAM organizations—including museums, libraries, archives, and galleries—that are involved in the digitization of collections and the promotion of cultural knowledge to the public.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning how to edit Wikipedia, upload images to Wikimedia Commons, or add information to Wikidata. No prior experience is required, and everyone is welcome to participate.
Participants may ask questions and take part in the session in Papiamento, Dutch, or English.
Creating a Wikipedia Account
To actively participate, attendees are required to have a Wikipedia account, which allows them to edit across all Wikimedia platforms. Those who do not yet have an account can visit the Wikipedia on Aruba YouTube page, where instructional videos are available explaining how to create one.
Registration
Interested participants can register via the official website:
www.wikipediaonaruba.org, by completing the online registration form.
