Serious Easter Monday Traffic Accident in Piedra Plat Leaves Two Injured

A serious traffic collision occurred early Friday morning in the Piedra Plat area, resulting in two people being injured.

Shortly before noon, residents reported hearing a vehicle screeching loudly as it braked over a long distance, followed by a heavy impact. Emergency calls were immediately placed to police, reporting a major accident near the intersection of the main road from Pos Abao toward Kibaima, close to the turnoff near Carquest Autoparts and Eden Garden Coffee House. One of the vehicles was reported to have overturned.

Police units from Santa Cruz were dispatched to the scene, located just past the Franklyn Bareño Sports Complex. Upon arrival, officers found a brown Kia Picanto overturned with all four wheels facing upward in front of the Fuente de Vida International Ministry building. Approximately 57 meters further up the road, a white Toyota Corolla was discovered on the southern side of the road with extensive front-end damage.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound toward Santa Cruz when the Kia Picanto exited a side road near Carquest Autoparts without yielding. Despite the Toyota driver braking forcefully, a collision occurred, pushing the Kia off the roadway where it overturned. The Toyota eventually came to a stop near Piedra Plat 101-C after traveling an estimated 130 meters from the point where braking began.

A young woman traveling in the Kia Picanto sustained injuries. Bystanders assisted by turning the overturned vehicle back onto its wheels before emergency services arrived. The second injured person was traveling in the Toyota Corolla.

Two ImSan ambulances responded and transported both victims to the Emergency Department for medical treatment.

Traffic specialists were called in to investigate the exact cause of the accident. Authorities will determine whether failure to yield or excessive speed contributed to the collision. Several witnesses provided statements, and the road was temporarily closed near Mido Restaurant to allow for investigation and cleanup.

Police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
