ORANJESTAD (AAN): A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon around 3:30 PM at the intersection of Schotlandstraat and Caya Soeur Dionysia, near the premises of Aruba Supplies & Distribution (ASD).
Initial reports to the police indicated a major collision with a possible trapped victim, prompting emergency services to dispatch both ambulance and rescue units to the scene.
The accident involved a dark brown Chevrolet Captiva SUV and a white Mitsubishi Lancer. The Captiva reportedly exited Caya Soeur Dionysia without giving right of way and collided with the Lancer, which was traveling north. Authorities are investigating whether the driver may have accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.
The impact was severe, pushing the Mitsubishi Lancer into the large sliding metal gate of ASD’s property. The Captiva continued forward, forcing the gate open and eventually crashing into a container inside the company’s yard before coming to a stop.
Fortunately, ASD was closed at the time of the accident, and no one was present on the premises. The force of the collision caused significant damage to the company’s gate and property.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer was able to exit the vehicle independently and walk to the ambulance for medical attention. Despite the intensity of the crash, the individual sustained relatively minor injuries.
The Schotlandstraat Accident Aruba is currently under investigation by traffic police and forensic teams, although the cause appears largely clear. The incident resulted in considerable material damage.
