ORANJESTAD (AAN): Savaneta pier renovation Aruba has officially begun, as Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever signed the Uitvoeringsovereenkomst with the winning company in September 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony on Monday marked the start of the project, which will significantly improve the pier’s infrastructure.

The Savaneta pier, previously known as the ex-Brisas del Mar pier, is an essential structure for the Savaneta community, frequently used for fishing, docking boats, and hosting community events. Due to the renovation works, the pier will be temporarily closed for a few weeks. Minister Wever will provide updates on when the pier will reopen for public use.

The renovation of piers around Aruba is part of the government’s priority to strengthen and develop the fishing sector. In line with the AVP-Futuro 2025-2028 governance program, Minister Wever allocated Afl. 500,000 for pier renovations, with the Savaneta pier renovation Aruba being the first project under this initiative. The next renovation will take place at the Colony pier at Rodgers Beach.

As part of the renovation, the pier will be completely refurbished with new wood and trappings to enhance durability, safety, and practical usage. The work is being carried out by a contractor with extensive experience in pier renovation and maintenance across Aruba.

Basic infrastructure is essential for the growth and sustainable development of the fishing sector. The AVP-Futuro Cabinet is committed to providing fishermen and the community with the necessary infrastructure to continue using the piers for work or leisure activities.

“I am pleased to see that the vision we have for the fishing sector is becoming a reality. We are starting with one pier, and soon we will continue with the renovation of the next, until all are completed. Soon, the Savaneta pier renovation Aruba will be fully completed and available for our fishermen and all the residents of Savaneta,” Minister Wever said.
