ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman met with VVD parliamentary leader Ruben Brekelmans at the Dutch Parliament during the official visit of the AVP-Futuro delegation to the Netherlands.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, particularly in areas including economic development, innovation, security, and knowledge exchange.
Prime Minister Eman emphasized Aruba’s interest in expanding strategic partnerships with Dutch institutions and organizations based on mutual respect and shared interests.
One of the key topics discussed was the recently signed memorandum with Wageningen University & Research to establish a permanent presence in Aruba focused on sustainability, food security, and environmental research.
Officials also discussed cooperation involving Aruba Airport, KLM, Schiphol Group, and the possibility of implementing an EU preclearance system in Aruba to strengthen the island’s international connectivity.
Regional security and geopolitical stability were also addressed during the discussions, with Eman expressing appreciation for Kingdom support during recent regional tensions.
Brekelmans acknowledged Aruba’s leadership and highlighted opportunities for Aruba to further diversify its economy beyond tourism through strategic cooperation with the Netherlands.
