ORANJESTAD (AAN): Prime Minister Mike Eman recently received a visit from Oscar Snijders, aimed at exploring opportunities for international collaboration in reforestation and sustainability in Aruba.

The meeting focused on how Deloitte, through its sustainability initiative, can support the National Reforestation and Urban Greening Program in Aruba. This program is part of the government’s vision to restore and protect the island’s natural environment, combining development with conservation efforts.

Oscar Snijders, who has over 30 years of experience and is currently leading Sustainability Services at Deloitte, is focusing on solutions for decarbonization and nature restoration in various countries.

During the meeting, ideas were exchanged regarding concrete initiatives, including protecting natural areas, expanding urban green spaces, and introducing school gardens as part of environmental education for youth. Additionally, experiences from other Caribbean islands, such as Curaçao, were shared, where Deloitte has contributed to mangrove restoration projects. This knowledge can serve as a basis for implementing similar initiatives in Aruba, strengthening regional cooperation.

The meeting aligns with the Aruba government’s strategic direction to continue investing in nature and sustainability, recognizing that environmental protection is a crucial pillar for the island’s future economic and social growth.

Prime Minister Eman, who has consistently emphasized the balance between development and conservation, continues to drive collaboration with international partners to create lasting solutions with direct community impact.

The Aruba government views this collaboration as an important step in strengthening local capacity, sharing knowledge, and continuing to build a greener, more resilient, and sustainable Aruba.
