ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Carlos Martinus, director of Openbaar Avond Beroepsonderwijs Aruba (OABA), stated during an interview with DIARIO that the 2025-2026 school year has been very successful for the institution.

According to Martinus, although the school started the year with fewer students due to limited promotion at the end of the previous academic year, the results have been positive.

He explained that OABA expects between 40 and 50 students from levels 1, 2, and 3 to receive their diplomas this year.

“For me, this year is a milestone. We started with level 3 as well, and the year is going very well. The reason we are here today is because we want next year to be even better, and we continue growing every day,” Martinus stated.

The director also mentioned that the school previously struggled with staff shortages but has now regained personnel, allowing more time for public outreach and student support.

Martinus emphasized the importance of giving students personal attention, especially because many students entering level 1 and 2 previously faced educational or personal difficulties and did not complete earlier studies.

He explained that OABA focuses on giving everyone a second opportunity to earn a diploma and build a stronger future through vocational education.

According to Martinus, many students currently working entry-level jobs are being encouraged to pursue careers as electricians, builders, mechanics, and other skilled professions through partnerships with local companies.
