ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba parliamentarian John Hart has expressed concern over what he describes as a growing lack of responsible driving behavior, saying the island needs stronger efforts to improve road safety.
Speaking to Matutino DIARIO, Hart said Parliament has already held discussions on traffic safety, including a question session with the Minister of Justice and legislative work on the issue. However, he believes current measures are not enough to address the increasing number of traffic incidents.
Hart pointed to several contributing factors, including a rise in hit-and-run cases, growing traffic congestion, dark vehicle window tinting, infrastructure challenges, impaired driving and a lack of respect for law enforcement.
He said road safety requires more than government enforcement, emphasizing that drivers themselves must take greater responsibility for their actions. Hart also called for broader cooperation among parliamentary committees and other stakeholders to develop more effective solutions for Aruba’s traffic safety challenges.
