ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba’s Minister of Sports, Gerlien Croes, said the government is in discussions with the newly established drag racing federation about investing in a dedicated drag racing facility to improve safety and provide an official venue for the sport.
Speaking in an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Croes said illegal drifting on public roads remains a concern and believes that providing a proper racing venue at Palo Marga could help reduce the problem.
The minister said the government has already set aside funding for a new control tower and is maintaining close communication with the federation to determine its needs before moving forward with additional investments, including a possible racing track.
Croes emphasized that while the government can provide financial support for infrastructure, organizing racing events remains the responsibility of the sport’s governing federation. She added that planning for the project will depend on identifying suitable land, estimating construction costs and preparing the necessary budget.
