Aruban specialist Melva Croes-Yanez is marking 35 years of work in neuropsychology.
Career began after returning to Aruba
Croes-Yanez returned in 1990 after financing her studies through work while attending school. During training, she helped adapt and translate a stroke assessment battery for Papiamento-speaking patients.
Assessments support diagnosis
Neuropsychology uses cognitive testing to examine memory, attention, language, planning and behaviour after stroke, brain injury and neurocognitive disorders. Her testing materials are adapted for Papiamento, Spanish, Dutch and English.
