ORANJESTAD (AAN): As part of Aruba’s strategy for the sustainable management of sports facilities, Minister of Sports Mr. Gerlien Croes announced that the sports field maintenance action plan will continue throughout 2026. The first project of the new year has already begun with comprehensive maintenance work at the Sabana Grandi sports field, an important step in ensuring that sports infrastructure remains in optimal condition for community use and athletes.
The work is being carried out through close collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Infrastructure, together with the Department of Public Works (DOW). Technical teams continue to perform structured and periodic maintenance on sports fields and facilities across the island. The 2026 plan builds on the successful implementation of the 2025 action plan, which delivered concrete improvements to multiple sports facilities.
Minister Croes emphasized that maintenance is a fundamental element of sustainable sports development. “Maintenance is key to sustainability. We believe in sports as a tool for social development and healthy living, and well-maintained infrastructure is essential to achieve this. We are committed to continuing our work with transparency, planning, and efficiency to serve our community as it deserves,” he stated.
The continuation of the plan focuses on implementing a preventive and periodic maintenance system, ensuring responsible use of public funds and creating long-term benefits for both the community and athletes.
Minister Croes also expressed his appreciation to DOW and all collaborators involved in the project, noting that the ministry looks forward to expanding the maintenance program to additional sports fields and facilities throughout the remainder of 2026.
