On Thursday evening, in the presence of invited guests, healthcare partners from Aruba and Colombia, members of the Executive Body of AZV (OE AZV), Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister of Public Health Mervin Wyatt-Ras, and AZV leadership, the official logo commemorating 25 years of AZV health insurance was officially unveiled. The logo will be used exclusively throughout 2026.
AZV, Aruba’s universal health insurance system, was introduced on January 1, 2001. As it marks its 25th anniversary in 2026, OE AZV is dedicating the year to reflecting on its impact and continued development. The unveiling ceremony marked the first official event in this anniversary year.
During the presentation, the AZV director reviewed the three core objectives behind the introduction of AZV and concluded that healthcare partners can be proud of the collective work achieved over the past 25 years. Aruba, he noted, has come very close to achieving accessible, high-quality, affordable, and effective healthcare for all—while emphasizing that continuous evaluation and improvement remain essential.
Minister of Public Health Mervin Wyatt-Ras highlighted the critical importance of AZV for Aruba’s community and expressed deep appreciation to the entire healthcare sector and the OE AZV team for their dedication. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a sustainable AZV system and announced that additional attention is being given to prevention and rehabilitation initiatives.
Prime Minister Mike Eman, the final speaker of the evening, reflected on the challenges and resistance faced during AZV’s introduction, including opposition from parts of the healthcare and insurance sectors. He acknowledged the leadership of former Health Minister Dr. Ike Posner, former Prime Minister Henny Eman, and former AZV Director Drs. Anco Ringeling, who played a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of AZV.
Prime Minister Eman also announced that the Government of Aruba has entrusted OE AZV with the execution of the upcoming Long-Term Care Law, scheduled to take effect in 2027—a decision warmly welcomed by healthcare stakeholders present.
A special recognition was awarded to Drs. Anco Ringeling for his long-standing and tireless contributions to AZV. OE AZV also expressed its gratitude to former directors Drs. Ru Croes, Alwin Lin, and Ruben Goedhoop with commemorative gifts.
The evening concluded with the official unveiling of the anniversary logo. OE AZV announced that it will soon share the full calendar of activities planned throughout 2026 to commemorate this milestone and to thank all insured residents for their continued trust.
