Evelyn Wever-Croes is seeking Dutch government clarification about Beatrix notes concerning Betico Croes and Aruba’s campaign for Status Aparte.
MEP asks for the historical record
According to NoticiaCla, the MEP leader said her party submitted questions through the Government of Aruba and wants relevant records investigated and made public. The request follows reporting on historical research into the Dutch royal family’s colonial history.
The controversy centers on a private 1983 notation attributed to then-Queen Beatrix about waiting for Betico Croes to no longer be a factor. The historical material published so far does not establish that the wording referred to Croes’s death; it could instead have meant his disappearance as a political force.
Request emphasizes disclosure over speculation
Wever-Croes said the wording is serious enough to merit an official explanation, while stressing that she was not making an accusation or presenting a theory about its meaning.
She referred to several controversial episodes in Croes’s life but did not offer evidence linking those events to the notation. Her stated reason for seeking additional documents is to clarify the context and reduce speculation.
The MEP leader also called on Prime Minister Mike Eman to request an answer from The Hague despite longstanding political differences. She said Aruba’s Status Aparte history warrants a clear response and asked supporters to avoid premature conclusions while the clarification request is considered.
